Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is the age range of “youth”?

In ASEAN as a region, “youth” is defined as 15 to 35 years old, however each specific ASEAN Member State may have slightly different definitions of “youth”.

I am turning 18 years old after the application deadline. Can I apply?

Most of our programmes require you to be of legal age in order to sign documents or contracts. Hence, you must be 18 years old at the time of application in order to be eligible for our programmes.

Is English proficiency a requirement?

We understand that English may not be your first language, and so we only require you to have an intermediate level of written and spoken English to be able to communicate your ideas with the organisers and your fellow ASEAN youth. Some of our programmes may also require you to submit simple reports or documents in English.

Youth Biodiversity Leaders (YBL)

I am a citizen of ___ country, can I apply?

We welcome applications from citizens of any of the ASEAN Member States: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

I am an ASEAN citizen, but I currently live in another country outside of ASEAN. Can I apply?

Yes you may apply, but please note that if you are selected, you are expected to attend the online and in-person components of the programme. The ACB will only be able to fund flights that are within the ASEAN region, so you will have to make arrangements to ensure that you will be able to attend the in-person component of the programme.

I don’t have a passport / my passport is expiring soon. Can I apply?

Yes, you can still apply. Please indicate in your application that your new passport is not ready yet. If you are chosen, you will need to have your passport ready for any international travel required of the programme.

I don’t have a biodiversity project right now. Can I apply?

Yes! As long as you have a passion in conserving nature and/or engaging young people to care about the environment, we welcome you to apply. We hope you will come up with biodiversity project ideas with your fellow YBLs to implement during your YBL fellowship year.

Can I edit my application after it’s been submitted?

Yes. After you submit your application, you will receive a copy of your responses. You may edit your response only until the deadline. After the deadline, you will not be able to edit your application.
